Meet the teacher
Hello and welcome! I’m Anna, creator of Uncommon Calm, a space I created to embrace community and authenticity in a world where its easy to feel different and alone.
I started with a simple, sincere intention: to offer tools for life that are real, grounded, sustainable. Tools that open the door to community, both online in the Uncommon Calm Virtual Village and also in each of our real lives. Each tool, each meditation I bring you is 100% authentic and human. From my heart to your ears, shaped by lived experience, personal practice, and deep reverence for the connected path.
A nurse by trade, I have 15 years of experience caring for critically ill patients in the ER, ICU, flight (medevac), and as a responder on the hospital inpatient emergency response team. I maintain specialty certifications for critical care and flight nursing, as well as hold a masters degree in Nurse Leadership and Management, a unique degree for leading people who will be caring for other people. My education and experience as a nurse has given me extensive experience with human factors and often my everyday is someone else’s worst day. After years of these days and working through the COVID pandemic of 2020, I was deeply burned out. Feeling tired, hollow, and desperate for a solution, I leaned deeply into yoga and meditation, eventually becoming a certified teacher in the Hatha and Yin lineages. I dove deep into this new learning with my studies and I not only began to move towards healing, I unexpectedly found a new ethical and spiritual practice in the traditional yogic perspective of the 8 fold path of yoga. Through meditation, movement, pranayama (breathwork), supportive therapy, and close management of my internal resources I did something very rare, I cured my burnout, emerging deeply renewed in body, mind, and spirit. With my new knowledge of the power held in these simple tools and deeply wise age old teachings, coupled with 15 years of exposure to the fragility of life and the importance of our connection to others, a little fire started inside me and I began to feel called to share. Called to teach the connections I have been able to make and the digestible ways I have found to integrate these practices into life. My teaching is rooted in classical yogic foundations and continually inspired by my life’s journey as a lifelong student of spiritual pathways, ritual, mind tools, meditation, yoga, and by the many teachings and teachers I have been blessed to learn from along the way.
At Uncommon Calm you’ll find mind tools designed for real life. I believe the practices that work are the ones you can return to consistently. For that reason, many of my offerings are generally shorter; supportive, accessible, and meant to meet you exactly where you are. Whether you have five minutes or two hours, the intention is the same: help you cultivate steadiness, clarity, and uncommon calm in the midst of everyday life.
Here, you will also find a deeply valued community. Our little Village. While many mind tools are often practiced in silence and solitude, it is strengthened when we remember we are not walking this path alone. If you are interacting in YouTube comments, joining a live, or sharing a practice with your friends, this space is an open invitation to practice together; to learn, to grow, and to support one another in living with greater awareness, compassion, authenticity, kindness, and above all else love.
This is mind tools and meditation not as escape, but as a relationship with your breath, body, mind, and truth…and with the shared human experience that connects us all.
Welcome home. I’m honored to practice with you.
